This Will Become -----------------> This & Then --------------------> This
Okay, I know that this is not the first time I talked about my affinity for Chevron. Nor I am I a newbie with the pattern. You might remember my Chevron EAT sign { and next month I will show you the Chevron beauties I created for my living room and my daughters' room (Yup, they love Chevron too!)}.
But wait... There's more....
I had more Chevron pattern left after the last project.
And I also found that I had more than a few boxes in my living room due to a recent delivery:
My husband saw a mess in need of unpacking, I saw cardboard and possibilities. Fun!
So, I took a box and cut it into small cardboard shapes.
Then it was time to cut my fabric and mod podge it on.
I coated the front of the cardboard, applied the fabric and coated the fabric with a layer of mod podge. Once dry, I applied another layer,
I then flipped each piece over and mod podged the sides of the fabric down.
Now the question was, what do I do with these many Chevron cardboard cut outs?
I suppose there is a lesson here... Something about knowing that what you are making has a final destination, but I must have forgotten that one because I had no clue.
And the Chevron pieces just hung out in the house for a bit and then I decided to place them over our bed.
Boring Befores:
But wait again...
There's more (originaly I typed that incorrectly as there's smores... Sadly, there are no smores here... Most Unfortunate... Sorry!).
I purchased letters from Michael's. Big "D" "R" "E" "A" & "M" and small "B" "I" "G".
Bet you can't guess what I planned to spell?
No, NOT "MAD BRIGE" !
"DREAM BIG"- Get the irony? The word Dream is big but the word big is small.
I had planned on painting them with silver metallic paint, but Michael's was out of the Martha Stewart version of that color and that's the one I prefer, so I decided to go for a copper instead. And I am happy I did... I really like the look!
And here they are after 2 coats and a few sparkles between layers to add texture:
Up Closer {can you see that texture? it adds to an industrial look, don't you think?}:
And on the wall above the Chevron:
Here's some pictures with the chandelier temporary removed:
I realize it essentially says "Dream Big Chevron" but seriously,
I really do dream of Chevron....
and why shouldn't I?!
Update:
So, the husband came home and complimented the faux copper "Dream Big" but added, "I think I am being overwhelmed by Chevron." I of course responded with, "Yup, I know. Isn't it great?!?!"
He likes Chevron, but doesn't worship it as I do (not sure what's wrong with him, but that's for another post...) and so, in an act of fairness, I removed the Chevron from the bedroom display (still not sure where it will find it's final home).
Also, he suggested we place the fake chandelier elsewhere. I agree, and so, now the wall above the bed looks like this:
(multiple views because that's how much I adore it!)
When showing the pictures, someone asked me about the "C" pillow on the bed (since our last name begins with an R and there are no C's in the family...). I'll save that for another post, but I will answer the other question posed by this astute thinker: How did you stack your books like that?
She meant, like this:
The answer: Metal brackets to create a floating shelf. Cool, right?
The master bedroom is really coming along, despite the Chevron rejection. :)
